First meeting with Dr. Poor

So I got all my models and x-rays done and anxiously awaited my consultation. Dr. Poor was very nice and assured me all of the procedure would be covered by Kaiser, even the upper jaw. So I no longer needed to worry about raising money for any of it.

Originally I just thought they would move the lower jaw forward (mandibular advancement) and the maxilla up (maxillary osteotomy). Turns out it would be more extensive than that. They were also going to widen the top jaw but cutting it into 3 sections. On top of all that, they were going to augment my chin to bring it farther forward (genioplasty), this would mean less movement of the teeth. They would also tilt the jaw a bit so the back teeth touched.

He showed me the model and how it would look after. He also showed me the little titanium brackets that would attach everything. I was provided an information packet including all the upcoming pre-op appointments and checklist of materials (such as new models and xrays) that would be needed.

The date was set! May 13th for the big day. It finally started to set in. This was going to happen and it was happening soon.
